SCHIST-Mas in July – A Climbing Festivus for The Rest Of Us

What if you could spend a summer weekend climbing outside, meeting new people, learning new skills, sitting around a bonfire with live music, and just enjoying time together as a climbing community?

That’s the idea behind SCHIST-Mas in July, a weekend we’re putting together for July 25–27 at Barn Door Hostel in Rumney.

This started as an idea to bring climbers together across AMC chapters and to create something welcoming, fun, and educational where people could connect, whether they’re new to the sport or have been climbing for years. A lot of the inspiration comes from Manda Knight, who many knew was such an integral part of the NH Mountaineering Committee. Someone who worked hard to make sure people felt included and supported within the climbing community and beyond.

We’re teaming up with leaders and volunteers from chapters across AMC, including Boston, RI, Western Massachusetts, NY, and beyond. We’re hoping this turns into a weekend packed with activities for all. Some of the things we’re planning include:

• Climbing clinics and activities — Gym to Crag sessions, educational seminars, sport climbing, bouldering, and maybe more, depending on what other chapters bring
• A Deck the Tents contest — decorate your campsite to help us get into the spirit of things
• A bonfire with a Christmas tree
• Live music under the stars
• A raffle fundraiser to help cover costs and support future programming
• And just general good times — hanging out, playing games, swapping stories, and enjoying the space

Registration is now open (click to register), with options for weekend camping or Saturday-only day tickets. The most the merrier, so if you have interest in volunteering, leading an activity, helping to fundraise, or just spreading the word;  please reach out!
