Paddle Leaders Wanted

What’s a Paddle Leader?

All of us at AMC have a special passion for the great outdoors and the activities we love doing outside. A big part of our mission is creating fun opportunities for all to experience, enjoy, and learn about our awesome environment. These opportunities don’t just happen though – it takes people to create trips, plan them, and run them. This is where leaders come in!

It starts with a love for being on the water. That desire to be out there every chance you get. That need to share this joy with others and invite people to join in on some adventure. You can do it! AMC NH Paddlers wants to help you make it happen.

Paddle trip leaders bring their skills, experience and knowledge and use them to ensure trip success. Trip leaders not only show the way, but often also the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ too. They lead by example, prioritizing safety and inclusiveness. Leaders are mindful of the environment. They connect people to our outdoors to foster a better understanding of AMC’s ‘Leave No Trace’ principles and the care we all must take to protect the environment for everyone’s enjoyment.

Why lead for Appalachian Mountain Club?

AMC is all about the outdoors. Our full-time mission is to protect it while maximizing the enjoyment opportunities for everyone. As an organization with these goals, AMC has extensive resources available to directly support all kinds of outdoor adventures:

  • Credibility and accountability so participants can join trips with confidence
  • Insurance coverage for leaders on AMC trips
  • AMC services, facilities (ex: camp properties), and equipment are available to leaders
  • Training & certification, advice, support is provided to leaders (and participants!)
  • Trip planning, scheduling, and announcement publication tools provided
  • Has an operating budget to help facilitate/subsidize training, conferences, trips, etc.
  • Group discounts at chapter/state/regional/national events
  • Rental coordination

You already love adventure, so are you ready to add more to it? Become a paddle leader and continue your learning journey while doing what you love. You’ll raise your outdoor awareness while sharing safe and enjoyable trips. You’ll build your skills and confidence working with other leaders and participants as you plan, organize and lead trips all over the region. You also get dibs on free or subsidized training opportunities for certification and ratings! Get more out of your outdoors time while helping others do the same.

Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Our committee co-chairs are your first stop when you’re ready to take that first step.

We’d really love to have more leaders taking families out, doing calm flat-water paddles, ocean paddles, long and short distance.
