Top Rope Site Management Leader Clinic

If you are interested in becoming a trip leader with the AMC New Hampshire Mountaineering committee, come join us for a clinic on managing a top-rope rock-climbing trip. Topics covered will include natural and bolted anchors, and leader safety.

This is primarily a clinic to practice technical skills for leading a trip, so while there may be some climbing involved to replicate scenarios encountered when leading a trip, there will not be much actual rock climbing. The clinic will run for approximately 8 hours with lunch and snack breaks.

After completing subsequent steps to becoming a trip leader with the Mountaineering Committee and leading your first trip, you can apply to be reimbursed for the class fee.

Prerequisites:

-Comfortable climbing 5.7 on top-rope

-Experience belaying with ATC/tube style belay device and ABD type device (ex: gri-gri or pilot)

-Experience tying into a climbing rope with a figure-8 knot

-Experience climbing outside and setting up top ropes is preferred, but not required.

Please fill out the registration form on the link above and the trip leader will get in touch with you to confirm your registration. Registration for the trip will close 1 week before the date of the trip.

Camp & Crag at Pawtuckaway

AMC-NH's Mountaineering Committee is heading to Pawtuckaway State Park from June 7, 8, & 9. Our "Camp and Crag" is the perfect transition for gym climbers looking to experience outdoor climbing. The weekend kicks off on Friday, June 7th with camping, and we'll head to a crag the next morning to set up top ropes and help you take your first grips on natural rock. After a day at the crags, we'll return to the campsite and hang around the fire.

On Sunday, we'll have an optional social climb, a more relaxed day with no formal instruction but plenty of opportunities to meet fellow climbers and challenge yourself with new routes.

Requirements: Participants should have experience climbing in the gym and be comfortable climbing 5.8 grades. Essential gear includes climbing shoes, a harness, and a belay device. Helmets are required; AMC can provide helmets for those without.

Camping Needs: Bring your own tent and sleeping gear. Facilities including bathrooms and showers are available at the park. We encourage everyone to collaborate on meals.

Registration: Space is limited, but a waitlist will be available for any cancellations.
